Traditional upholstery is a craft that has evolved over centuries for padding and covering furniture.

It uses materials like coil springs, animal hair, coir (coconut fibre), straw and hay, hessians (woven fabric from jute or sisal fibres), linen scrims (coarse woven fabrics), wadding, etc., and is done by hand, building each layer up.
